Definition of a Core Outcome Set for treatment of Rotator Cuff Tears

Background: Rotator cuff tears represents a disease with a high prevalence. Many treatments were proposed depending on tear pattern and patient-related factors. Comparison between different treatments is not easy because of heterogeneity of outcome measures reported in the literature. The aim of the current project is to define a Core Outcome Set for the assessment of treatment of rotator cuff tears.

- Focus group(s)
- Interview
- Literature review
- Semi structured discussion
- Systematic review

A Systematic review of outcomes used in clinical studies on the treatment of rotator cuff tears will be performed. Other outcomes relevant for patients and other stakeholders will be revealed by qualitative interviews and focus groups. These data will be structured and organized into a questionnaire which will be submitted to a panel for a Delphi Consensus.

The Delphi Consensus will rate each outcome in order to define more relevant ones to include in the Core Outcome Set. An international panel of shoulder surgeons, represented by the members of the Shoulder Committee of ISAKOS (International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery, Orthopaedic Sport medicine) will contribute to Delphi Consensus. Patients, physical therapist and other stakeholders will be invited into focus group and to the Delphi Consensus.
