Development of a core outcome set for clinical research of dampness syndrome of Chinese medicine

Chinese medicine (CM) has been practiced for thousands of years and has evolved its own theory. The syndrome (zheng in Chinese) is an important notion in CM, indicating a particular pathological mechanism at a certain stage of diseases. Dampness syndrome is one of the common basic syndromes of CM. However, there is no standard efficacy evaluation standard for dampness, which has an impact on the standardization and consistency of syndrome therapeutic effect evaluation. Developing a core outcome set (COS) is an important way to solve the problems of inconsistency and unrecognized arbitrariness on outcome measures in the effectiveness evaluation of clinical trials of CM. Hence, a COS for clinical research on dampness syndrome will be constructed to improve the standardization and consistency of the outcome indicator report of related clinical research.
