In recent years, lumbar spinal stenosis has become a disease with a high incidence worldwide. As the average life expectancy of the population increases, the incidence of the disease can reach 90%. The disease causes pain in the lower back and legs and intermittent claudication, which affects the quality of life of the patients. Current treatment for lumbar spinal stenosis includes both surgical and non-surgical treatments. Among them, acupuncture is a non-surgical treatment commonly used in Chinese clinics and is an important complementary alternative treatment. It is believed to relieve the spasm of the muscles and edema of the surrounding tissues, thus improving the patient's symptoms and thus improving the patient's quality of life and reducing the burden caused by the disease. It is well known that all medical interventions should be centered on the patient's wishes and interests. Currently, the main assessment of the effectiveness of treatment for lumbar spinal stenosis mainly includes the function of the lumbar spine, the level of pain, and the possible lack of more targeted assessment tools for the patient's financial burden, quality of life, etc. Our team has been engaged in acupuncture interventions for this disease, and has accumulated some clinical experience. The main objective of this study is to explore core outcome sets that can evaluate the real needs of patients and their relatives (patient-centered) in order to improve the relevance of future clinical studies.

This study is divided into three processes. The first step is to systematically review the clinical studies of lumbar spinal stenosis in adults, screen these clinical research literature, extract the outcome index data, and form a preliminary outcome index set. The second step is to conduct a Delphi survey with experts and patients to further evaluate the importance of each outcome index. The third step is to hold an expert consensus meeting and invite well-known experts in this research field to discuss and reach a consensus on the clinical core outcome indicators of lumbar spinal stenosis in adults.
