Using the Core Outcome Measures in Effectiveness Trials (COMET) Initiative, the AD COS was identified and selected for uptake analysis. The COMET Initiative is an organization dedicated to the advocation and expansion of the use of COSs, while also compiling published COSs in a publicly available database. Since we were assessing interventions within clinical trials, we restricted our search to phase III and IV trials. Additionally, the cut-off date for our included sample of trials was December 26, 2012, to establish a baseline of outcome measurements prior to COS publication. ClinicalTrials.gov, an electronic clinical trial registry database, was searched on June 26, 2023, to identify phase III/IV RCTs in AD. ClinicalTrials.gov automatically searches synonyms and similar key words for conditions and diseases. A list of these generated search terms can be found in Supplemental File A. The following search filters were used when searching ClinicalTrials.gov, “conditions: anxiety”, “study type: interventional studies”, “phase: 3 and 4”, “date: 12/26/2012 to 06/26/2023”, with no restrictions regarding recruitment status. We also searched the International Clinical Trial Registry Platform (ICTRP) in a similar manner.
